Where it all began
Following in the footsteps of the ever-successful Irish horsemen and horsewomen, trainers and jockeys, Liam Connolly, ably assisted by his eldest sons Joe and Bill, shipped the first export load of horse feed to the United Kingdom in May of 1985. Buoyed by their success, the family took the emerging RED MILLS brand to continental Europe in 1993.
The culture of hard work, quality, consistency and service underpinned by innovation, diversification and efficiency saw the company expand to America in 1998, Far East Asia in 2004, and the Middle East in 2007. Today, Connolly’s RED MILLS and its sister brands Foran Equine Healthcare and Carr & Day & Martin are supplied to leading stables from Berlin and Beijing to California, Cape Town and beyond. With branch companies in the USA, Dubai and Japan, and sales offices in China, Korea, India and France, the RED MILLS Group is proud to be able to provide its products and technical support services to over 80 countries worldwide.

US/Canada/Mexico
In 1997, Connolly’s RED MILLS branched out into the United States market, leading to a rapid expansion of our equine feed distribution. These include some of the largest states within the US and beyond, further expanding to the Canada region. Today, we have a company branch and sales office in the USA that provides direct technical and product support to our customers in these areas.
Europe
Connolly’s RED MILLS has been supplying horse feed in Ireland since 1967. In 1985, Liam Connolly and his 2 sons Joe and Bill exported their first load of horse feed to the United Kingdom. The family then took the emerging RED MILLS brand to continental Europe in 1993. By 2000, RED MILLS had grown its footprint across Europe through its culture of hard work, quality and consistency underpinned by innovation to meet customer needs. Today, our range is extensively available across most of Europe.
Asia
In 2005, RED MILLS became the first equine feed company in the world to secure a landmark Chinese licence for horse feed supply. Our innovative NFMS packaging technology utilised secured successful customer expansion due to being suitable for high-humidity environments. This success in the region was closely followed by additional customer growth across far Eastern Asia. Today, we continue to supply leading stables from Beijing to Tokyo, with sales offices in China, Korea and India as part of our commitment to serving the customers in the region.
Gulf & Middle East
In 2007, RED MILLS grew its international presence even further by settling its roots in the Emirate of Dubai and the greater Middle Eastern region. The region is serviced through our Freezone entity, RED MILLS INTERNATIONAL, with our distributors and their subsidiaries servicing our valued customers. RED MILLS now supplies many of the countries within the Gulf region, with support on the ground thanks to our expert team located in our branch offices in Dubai.

After nearly 60 years of supplying Connolly’s RED MILLS equine feed, we now successfully distribute our horse feed to stables in areas ranging from Berlin and Beijing to California, Cape Town and beyond. All Connolly’s RED MILLS feeds are manufactured at our mill in Ireland, with no part of the manufacturing process being outsourced to third parties. This way, we can continue supplying worldwide and at scale, providing the safest and highest quality feed sealed in our unique packaging to guarantee that every newly opened bag of Connolly’s RED MILLS is as fresh as the day it was packaged at our Goresbridge factory.
Our independent quality control processes are implemented within our factory, from seed to finished product. Connolly’s RED MILLS is committed to continuous research and development, with our Nutrient Fresh Management System™ (NFMS) packaging being one of our latest and most exciting innovations. Our NFMS packaging technology is a world-first in innovative product packaging, designed by Connolly’s RED MILLS. NFMS is like putting skin around a product, copying Mother Nature by taking all the ingredients contained in the Connolly’s RED MILLS’ Precision Nutrition formula and wrapping it in a protective skin that seals in the goodness and freshness.
Our NFMS guarantees a fresher and longer product lifespan that is valued by customers residing in countries where high humidity remains a challenge. This enables us to provide customers with greater quantities of Connolly’s RED MILLS while ensuring consistent supply and enhancing the economies of scale. Additionally, our customers no longer have to be concerned about the expiration or level of freshness pertaining to our products. Shipping greater quantities of feed dramatically lowers the freight costs involved, which can sometimes account for between 20%-30% of product costs. This is how we pass the savings onto our customers, enabling us to provide customers with the best performance and value that money can buy. Our quality assurance process is exercised within our on-site laboratory facilities, with an in-depth analysis of all raw ingredients and finished products being conducted during quality control, from the day raw materials enter our mills to the day they arrive at your stables. Raw ingredients and finished products are tested for Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances (NOPS) thanks to the advanced technology we utilize to ensure our products remain optimal for consumption. Using the same technology that is used at the Olympics for testing athletes, this step in the process guarantees consistent nutritional standards and NOPS-free produce.
Our commitment to testing for the delivery of optimal nutritional quality starts with exacting the specifications of our seeds, testing throughout all stages to meet regulatory standards globally, and deliver the most trusted and premium-quality equine feeds. Our strong partnerships with the Department of Agriculture—as well as local and international trade authorities—guarantee that our products meet and exceed the standards and requirements set while being carefully distributed worldwide.
