The rescheduled Connolly’s RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Hurdle Series Final took place at Punchestown on Wednesday and provided the members of the Final Reminder Syndicate with a memorable result.
Funky Dady trained by Denis Hogan and ridden to victory by Shane Mulcahy was a relatively cheap purchase costing just €6,700 and on Wednesday took his career earnings from the series to €52,800.
The final also provided young jockey Shane Mulcahy with the biggest success of his career so far and was a nice reward having had terrible luck with injuries. Denis Hogan who was away at the sales this week commented that Wednesday’s success would allow the syndicate to reinvest and purchase another horse.
Entry into Wednesday’s final was limited to horses who had ran in one of the previous races in the series. Each of these qualifying maiden and novice hurdles were also worth a minimum of €20,000. The series was designed to give owners, trainers and vendors at the sales a lucrative series of races to target with a valuable final at the end. This year’s final included 16 runners for 14 different trainers with a number of syndicates and small owners represented. This spread of owners and trainers was something we saw throughout the series.
It wasn’t just Wednesday’s winner who repaid their auction price with earnings from the series. Runner up Barnaviddaun, Dime A Dozen, Arcadian Sunrise and many more were beneficiaries from this valuable series. The 2020/2021 series has already commenced with the next qualifier scheduled for Clonmel on November 12th.
