The Liverpool International Horse Show proved to be a very successful one for our RED MILLS showjumpers. Back for its third year, the show hosted a series of world class showjumping alongside some spectacular acts and live music.

Shane Breen saw the start of the RED MILLS success with second place aboard Ipswich van de Wolfsakker in Friday afternoon’s CSI4* 1.50m Easibed Longines Ranking Class. In a super tight top five, with less than a second between their times, Shane clinched the silver spot just 0.31 seconds behind leader Sameh El Dahan and 0.04s ahead of British leading lady rider Laura Renwick. Yazmin Davis also placed inside the top 10, coming ninth with Zilverster II.

Jake Saywell clinched the first RED MILLS win on the Friday night. With 11 through to the jump off in the Liverpool International’s U25’s Grand Prix, Jake and Havinia Van De Roshoeve just pipped Robert Murphy by 0.33s to take the title, the perfect finish to a great season for the pair.

Shane Breen then produced another great performance with nine year old mare CSF Vendi Cruz on Saturday afternoon, taking top spot in the CSI4* 1.45m Gornall Equestrian Speed Competition. That wasn’t to be his only podium finish on Saturday as he also repeated Friday afternoons placing, taking second place with Ipswich van de Wolfsakker in the CSI4* 1.50m Horseware Longines Ranking Class.

Holly Smith also placed in the 1.50m class, completing a lovely educational double clear for seventh place with Hearts Destiny. Following on from her success at Olympia, Holly and Quality Old Joker proceeded to finish equal winners in the CSI4* Equitop Myoplast Puissance on the Saturday night.

Having got through to the fifth round the pair were first to go and flew the wall at 2.20m. Louise Saywell and Chris Megahey followed and cleared the seven foot two inch wall, resulting in a three way tie for first place. Shane and Cycloon W also got through to round four but just tipped a block to be knocked out of the competition.

The Sunday afternoon saw Shane Breen’s successes continue with a further second place with CSF Vendi Cruz in the CSI4* 1.45m Speed Competition sponsored by Voltaire Design.

Six RED MILLS riders were due to compete on the Sunday evening which unfortunately had to be cancelled due to a serious fire in a nearby multi-storey car park. Thankfully everyone was evacuated safely and no horses or humans were hurt with huge credit to the show and arena staff, riders, grooms, the public who offered help and support and our wonderful emergency services. We’re looking forward to the show in December 2018!
