Keeping your horse’s workload varied and educational is important and a great way to do that is with gridwork. We teamed up with RED MILLS rider Harriet Nuttall and Absolute Horse magazine to bring you some new gridwork ideas.

The benefits for horses doing pole and gridwork are well known, including an increased range of motion, engaging the hindquarters and improving core stability and proprioception. It can also help the rider to practise shortening and lengthening strides, riding to and from a fence and their accuracy.

Harriet does gridwork with her horses two or three times a week when she is building their fitness in preparation for the competition season. The full article gives more information on why she does gridwork with all of her horses, as well as some example exercises.
