One Cool Poet created a piece of Galway festival history last month for trainer Matthew Smith and the DRFG Partnership when winning three times in six days at the festival.
Trained in Kilmessan, Co. Meath by Matthew Smith the seven-year-old One Cool Poet had only previously won one of his 29 races but an amazing week in Ballybrit put his name in the record books.
His great week started on Tuesday with a win over an extended mile, on Thursday he stepped up to a mile and a half and defied a 6lb penalty to win comfortably before rounding off the week on Saturday over the same distance with another comfortable success.
Limerick jockey Billy Lee was on board on all three occasions at Galway and this weekend the pair head to Leopardstown for Irish Champions Weekend. They line up in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF ‘Petingo’ Handicap of €150,000 looking to make it four successive wins.
The history making week was made all the more amazing considering One Cool Poet suffered a very serious tendon injury 3 year’s ago as a three year old which threatened to end his racing career.
What a performance! A third win at @Galway_Races in the space of six days for One Cool Poet! #GalwayRaces

Amazingly Matthew Smith is convinced One Cool Poet would have made it four in seven days had he been entered for a race at Galway on the Sunday. Smith reported One Cool Poet was raring to go again on the Sunday morning and was somewhat disappointed not to be escorted onto the horsebox.
We would like to wish the Matthew Smith, the connection’s of One Cool Poet and all our customers the very best of luck at Irish Champions Weekend this Saturday and Sunday.
