Meet the Panellists

MC Jane Mangan certainly needs no introduction in racing circles, as a regular contributor to RTÉ Racing and Racing TV. Each of the panellists combine practical experience within the racing industry, with extensive technical expertise.

Erin Campbell – REDMILLS Nutritionist 

After graduating from Hartpury University and studying equine science, Erin joined Connolly’s RED MILLS and Foran Equine in 2021. Erin is a key member of the technical team and specialises in customising diet plans and providing nutritional advice to our customers.. Erin has years of practical experience in the racing industry and a keen interest on how nutritional-related issues can affect the potential of equine athletes and performance. She also studied longitudinal risk factors of gastric ulcers in racehorses for her undergraduate dissertation. Her practical background combined with her nutritional knowledge drives her interest in performance nutrition and managing nutritional-related issues. 

 

Alan Creighton – Irish Equine Centre Head of Environment & Nutrition 

Alan received his Degree in Food Science and Nutrition from the Dublin Institute of Technology. He joined the IEC in June 1995 to work in the Microbiology unit. He took up the role of environmental scientist in 1999, and as Head of Environment and Nutrition in late 2017. He works with trainers and stud owners at home and internationally on all aspects of equine biosecurity, nutrition and performance. He is a former Showjumper and has a massive interest in all aspects of thoroughbred racing, is a keen breeder and pin hooker. 

 

 

Emma Hartigan – Kildangan Stud Senior Supervisor & Reproduction Vet assistant  

Emma was born and bred in Co. Kildare and has been working in the thoroughbred industry for over 23 years. Emma currently works in Kildangan Stud as a senior supervisor & reproduction Veterinary assistant. She has worked in  Kildangan Stud for 17 seasons, and has been in her current role for the past 9 years. She looks after the day-to-day mare reproduction scheduling in Kildangan Stud for both client and company’s mares. She is also a part of the foaling and covering teams. 

 

Gillian Maddock – Clinic na gCapall Equine Veterinarian 

Gillian is a graduate of Cambridge University Veterinary School.  She spent one year in mixed practice in South of England followed by 5 years in a large equine practice in The Cotswolds, during which she did a 6-month stud season in New Zealand. Gillian currently works in Clinic na gCapall, Co. Carlow which mainly covers the Carlow/Kilkenny area servicing all areas of the equine industry.  A large proportion of the Clinic na gCapall caseload is with thoroughbreds, both in racing yards and stud farms. 

In Gillian’s spare time she has a very active role helping her husband Ray Cody with his breeding and training operation.
