Showing Ireland, the Association for Show Horses in Ireland has launched the second renewal of the Connolly’s RED MILLS Champion of Champions, which will take place at Tattersalls Show on Sunday 21st July.

The Champion, Reserve Champion and highest placed 4yo from a series of nine summers shows from across the country will qualify to compete in the main arena at Tattersalls Show, where the winner will be crowned the Connolly’s RED MILLS Supreme Champion of Champions.

The aim of the series is to promote the Irish Show Horse and safe guard showing classes and support the Agricultural Shows across the country.

The list of qualifiers has been expanded to include nine shows and a new Amateur and Best Turned Out Awards have been added to Final at Tattersalls.

This year the Final prize-fund has reached €3,000, with the overall RED MILLS Champion of Champions taking home €1000, the Reserve Champion will receive €400, the highest place 4yo €450 while the highest placed Amateur will be awarded €350.

A further €750 will be divided between all the qualified horses who attend the final.

The Best Turned Out will win €50 and a voucher for the RED MILLS Store in Cillin Hill Co. Kilkenny.

Speaking at the launch Angus McDonnell, Chairman of the Showing Ireland said; “We’re really excited for the second renewal of the Connolly’s RED MILLS Champion of Champions Series. The original aim will create a platform to showcase the quality horses and talented riders and producers that we have here in Ireland while supporting the country shows. Last year was a great success, with a wonderful Final in Tattersalls and we are looking forward to building on year one and expanding it even further.”

Jane Davis, Equine Brand Manager, Connolly’s RED MILLS said; “ The Irish summer show season is steeped in tradition and is at the heart of rural Ireland which RED MILLS is very proud to support with this sponsorship.

There is huge skill and horsemanship involved in producing a show horse and good ring craft is a real art. The RED MILLS Champion of Champions really shone a light on the sport last summer and we’re excited to make it even bigger and better this year.

Nutrition plays a key role in producing horses for the showring and we’re looking forward to getting to meet many of the competitors and showcasing our products and services throughout the summer.”

Each qualifying show will use their own rules/schedule which will dictate which riding class is included in their Championship.

Note to Riding Judges:

TO QUALIFY

Technically three horses can qualify from each show

  • Champion
  • Reserve Champion
  • Top placed 4yr old as decided by the judges (IF NOT ALREADY CHAMPION OR RESERVE)

NB: RE 4yr olds.

  • If a 4yr old is NOT Champion or Reserve, then it will be up to the judge’s discretion to pick the top 4yr old ridden horse to go forward to the final. Should there be a tie for placings in different classes then the judges can decide.

In this case three horses will qualify from this show for the final.

  • If EITHER Champion or Reserve of the show is a 4yr old, then only these two horses will qualify.

If Champion or Reserve are BOTH 4yr olds, then both will qualify for the final both as 4yr olds and Champion and Reserve on the day.
