Traditionally, competition feeds are formulated to provide energy from cereals such as oats and barley.  However, we now know that for some horses a high cereal diet can increase the risk of problems including excessive excitability, gastric ulcers and/or tying up.

As a result, many feed companies have developed low starch competition feeds such as those in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Care Range. These feeds are designed to be highly digestible, fully balanced and low in starch. In addition, many also contain added beneficial ingredients for example, the Connolly’s RED MILLS Care Range contains added antioxidants, yeast, prebiotics and a long-lasting natural gastric acid buffer.
