It's official, Burrow Seven's debut race has been declared!

Burrow Seven has officially been declared to race at Catterick Racecourse on the 14th December at 15:15.

Who is Burrow Seven?

Burrow Seven is a four-year-old grey gelding, in training in Yorkshire with Jedd O’Keefe. He is owned by the Burrow Seven Racing Club, which has been set up in honour of former rugby league player Rob Burrow MBE, and named Burrow Seven after the shirt Rob played in for 16 years. Last year the Burrow Seven Racing Club raised £100,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association. At Rob’s request, the 2022 campaign now includes both the MND Association and the Rob Burrow Centre for MND Centre Appeal/Leeds Charity Hospital; the profits raised from the racing club will be split equally between the MDN Association and Leeds Hospital Charities.

Burrow Seven was sired by Kayf Tara, three-time Champion Stayer, with wins including Royal Ascot Gold Cup and the Irish St. Ledger. Kayf Tara has notched up 11 UK Championships as a National Hunt Stallion and is the winner of the Horse & Hound Cup for the sixth consecutive year for siring the highest number of individual chase winners in 2019-20 among the active stallions in Britain.

Connolly’s RED MILLS are delighted to support Burrow Seven and the campaign through providing his feed and supporting the team with any nutritional advice.

Who is Rob Burrow?

Rob played rugby league for Leeds Rhinos for 16 years. In December 2019 he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND); there is no cure for this degenerative disease. In less than a year, Rob has lost his voice and his ability to walk, suffers difficulty breathing and stiff joints cause his severe pain. Rob has shown the same spirit in his battle against MND as he did playing on the pitch; he doesn’t want the disease to define him. Since the diagnosis he and his family have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the condition and to raise vital funds.

We’re looking forward to seeing Burrow Seven head to post for the first time on the 14th December. Catterick Races also gave the Burrow Seven Racing Club the honour of naming a race for Rob Burrow on the day – 13:45 Rob Burrow Is A Legend! Juvenile Hurdle (Go North Grey Bomber Series Qualifier) (GBB Race) (Class 4)
